Cholecystitis

Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located under the liver. It stores bile, a fluid that helps the body digest fats.

Cholecystitis is most commonly caused by gallstones. Gallstones are hard deposits that form in the gallbladder. When a gallstone blocks the bile duct, bile backs up into the gallbladder and causes inflammation.
